Detailed Property Information and Amenities
Main House: 3 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, Study, Dining Room, Lounge, Loft, Kitchen, Scullery and 3 Garages (skip to photos)
This unique, originally cape dutch style home is now on the market for the first time in 37 years.
The home sits comfortably on a 2100 square meter plot with an established garden, pool, basketball practice area, 2 independent living units and 3 large outdoor patios. The plot is secured with an extra high perimeter wall which is topped with an electric fence offering privacy and peace of mind. The access gate and all 3 garage doors are remote controlled. The compliment of buildings measure around 470 square meters. This property has the potential to be a dream home, highly visible office or conveniently located guest house. It is situated on the corner of Queen street and Alexandra road offering main entrances to both. This is an older home in need of love; and by love I mean renovation, as the photos will show. With an open mind and some imagination it can be transformed into the beautiful building it deserves to be.
Upon entering the front door of the main house you are greeted by an entrance hall with crystal sconces. To the right is a bright and sunny dining room and to the left is the study, passage and kitchen. The large kitchen has big slider windows that open to a central courtyard perfect for herb and hanging gardens. There are plenty of cupboards, a gas hob, granite counter tops and space for a farm style kitchen table. A separate scullery comfortably fits a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer and has additional storage. The study has a wall of built in upper and lower cupboards for storage and a sunny bay window (which is missing a window sill or built in seating). Across from the study is the main living area with triple volume thatch roof, clad feature wall and railway sleeper built in shelves. There is also an Irene stone fireplace surround which arches into the kitchen and study - the gas connection is installed but no fireplace. The living room leads out to a covered patio via tall glass sliders which bring in plenty of natural light. On the opposite side of the outdoor patio there is a loft with floor to roof windows and large sliders which brings in more natural light and would be a great hangout space. Previous tenants used the large area as a theater space for movie nights. There are cutouts for skylights in the floor of the loft for the bedroom and passage below but the glass has not been installed. The loft staircase has recently been built leaving some floor tiles missing in the lounge (they are available in storage). Down the passage are 3 very large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The family bathroom has a bath, shower and basin with separate toilet. This vanity is in need of replacing, having suffered water damage over the years. All the bedrooms have built in cupboards with plenty of storage and large windows offering views of the garden and inviting natural light inside. The master en suite is a large open space with double vanity, toilet and bath with plenty of space to add a shower. This vanity cupboard too is original to the house and needs replacing. Neither of the bathrooms have been updated over the last 37 years. The entire house offers underfloor heating which can be controlled individually in different rooms.
There is a dedicated laundry adjacent to the cottage/pool house and courtyard with space for 3 machines and room to iron; a storage unit and counter top would round off this convenient space. The established garden hosts a large variety of fruit trees offering a magical display for the senses every spring. There is ample room and materials to build raised garden beds for growing your own organic vegetables. A massive worm farm was specially built for composting leaves and kitchen scraps and offers a hatch to easily remove compost for garden use. Currently a 5000L rainwater tank assists with filling the pool and light watering; the gutter and raised platform is in place for a second tank to be attached at the back of the house. The property has a gardener/builder's locker room outside with toilet and basin.
The main house has been tenant occupied since 2010 when we moved to Hoedspruit for my wife's career opportunity. Now officially retired we have permanently relocated to the Western Cape and sadly need to let our dream home go to a new family that we hope will love it as much as we do and maximise it's potential.
Cottage / Pool House: 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Open plan Kitchen and Living (skip to photos)
This 1 bedroom cottage originally designed as a "pool house", has built in cupboards and a unique floating bed design with led lighting underneath. There is a small storage space under the bed perfect for a suitcase or gym bag. The en suite bathroom has a large vanity with granite top and glass basin, toilet and shower. There is a door from the bathroom leading directly into the spacious laundry.
An upmarket kitchen with Caesar stone counters and peninsula compliment the open space living area with it’s high reeded ceiling. A sliding door leads out into the garden and pool area. The cottage is one of two rental units on the property and has been tenant occupied since 2014 offering stable additional income. The unit has its own security alarm system which can be armed independently. Internet access is via a fiber connection from the tenant in the main house.
Studio / Games Room: Large open plan Kitchen and Living area with separate Bathroom and Toilet, outdoor Patio (skip to photos)
The studio is a typical bachelors pad on the second story and was originally designed as a “man cave/games room”. A large balcony patio offers beautiful views of the garden and pool area. There is a spacious bathroom area with shower, basin and private toilet. A free standing cupboard on wheels can be moved around the room for storage or to create a room divider. The studio was tenant occupied from 2013 – end of May 2020 and is currently empty. This unit has its own alarm system which operates independently from the other buildings.
